Taliaferro & Browne Helps Restore Roots with: Prospect Summit Duplexes Groundbreaking, Bringing New Housing and Hope to Prospect Avenue

On November 5, 2025, the Prospect Summit Duplexes broke ground, marking a milestone in advancing housing opportunity and community renewal along Kansas City’s historic Prospect Avenue corridor. This collaborative effort between Taliaferro & Browne and Fulson Housing Group companies, with support from the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City, MO Central City Economic Development (CCED) Sales Tax Program, reflects what’s possible when investment, partnership, and purpose align.

The $8.2 million development will deliver 24 new, modern townhomes between 22nd and 23rd Streets, including approximately $2.5 million in support from CCED. Designed to create energy-efficient, high-quality housing that restores neighborhood vitality, Prospect Summit represents a new chapter in sustainable community growth.

“This project has been years in the making,” said Leonard Graham, President of Taliaferro & Taliaferro & Browne and co-developer of Prospect Summit Duplexes. “It is more than new construction. It is about restoring pride, creating access to quality housing, and showing what is possible when community and opportunity align along Prospect Avenue.”

Designed by Taliaferro & Browne

Taliaferro & Browne proudly serves as the lead designer and architect for Prospect Summit Duplexes, with Custom Engineering providing MEP engineering. Every element from infrastructure layout to building systems was intentionally designed to serve the senior residents’ long-term needs while aligning with the neighborhood’s character.

The site, once blighted and underutilized, is now being transformed through coordinated public and private infrastructure improvements, including new sidewalks, on-street parking, street lighting, ADA ramps, and enhanced landscaping. Private infrastructure includes interior driveways with parking, underground detention systems, and new utilities for each home. Its proximity to the 22nd/23rd Street Connector and the Prospect MAX Bus Rapid Transit line, both engineered by Taliaferro & Browne, reinforces the firm’s commitment to equitable access through smart infrastructure.

A Commitment to Community

As part of the celebration, a $72,000 check was presented to Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, a long-standing community anchor adjacent to the project. The contribution—offered as part of the development fee underscores Taliaferro & Browne’s deep-rooted belief that progress must uplift both people and the institutions that have held the community together for generations.

“Our seniors deserve homes that honor their contributions and support their future,” said Matt Fulson , Founder of Fulson Housing Group. “Prospect Summit was designed with stability in mind—ensuring our older residents can age confidently in the community they helped build. This investment stands as a promise that progress will always include those who paved the way, and we’re proud to have partnered with Taliaferro & Browne, CCED, the City of Kansas City, MO, and our elected officials to bring this project to life.”

“Prospect Summit is another step forward for Kansas City’s East Side and our goal of creating 10,000 new and preserved units of affordable and attainable housing,” said Mayor Quinton Lucas. “This development will strengthen our urban core and deliver the kind of progress our residents can see and feel. My thanks to the CCED Board, our councilmembers, and all our partners for their commitment to building a more equitable Kansas City.”

Prospect Summit represents the kind of investment our community has long deserved,” said Councilwoman Melissa Robinson, Third District. “Each new home signals more than construction—it is a commitment to restoring stability, dignity, and opportunity along Prospect Avenue. When we invest in people and in place, we strengthen the foundation of Kansas City’s future.”

“The success of the Central City Economic Development Sales Tax District is measured not just in buildings, but in opportunity,” said Councilwoman Melissa Patterson-Hazley, Third District at Large. “Projects like Prospect Summit represent the intentional work of making sure every part of Kansas City benefits from growth. By aligning policy, investment, and community partnership, we are building pathways for residents to access quality housing and long-term opportunity.”

“Prospect Summit reflects what the Central City Economic Development Sales Tax District program was designed to do—invest in people, not just projects,” said Dan Cranshaw, Chair of the CCED Board. “Each home represents an opportunity for residents to live, grow, and thrive in neighborhoods that have long been the heart of Kansas City. It’s about ensuring that equity and prosperity move together.”

Building Beyond Blueprints

For Taliaferro & Browne, Prospect Summit Duplexes reflects more than a design milestone—it’s a continuation of our legacy of transforming vision into community impact. We are proud to help shape projects that don’t just redefine spaces but restore the pride and promise of neighborhoods that built Kansas City’s foundation.
