MLB Urban Youth Academy

The Kansas City MLB Urban Youth Academy is an indoor training facility with four new state-of-the-art baseball and softball diamonds, located in the historic 18th and Vine District of Kansas City, MO. The project is a partnership between Major League Baseball, the Major-League Baseball Players Association, the Kansas City Royals, the City of Kansas City, MO, and the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department.

The Academy and park improvements includes two full-size baseball fields, including one with permanent and portable bleachers for tournament play; two youth baseball-softball fields; a half-mile walking trail with views of the baseball and softball diamonds; relocated basketball courts; relocated and renovated tennis courts, and a new playground near the community center.

What We Did

Taliaferro & Browne provided civil engineering services including the design of mass grading, finished grading, parking lot improvements, storm water management, storm sewers, sanitary sewer service connections, and water service connections. T&B also provided topographic and property surveying for the design preparation, structural special inspections for the indoor training facility, and miscellaneous site features.
